Rum Runners- Friday's Food and Beverage

Clearwater Beach April 2009

Yesterday's trip to the beach was great. I got to hang out with my teacher friends who were on Spring Break and get a little sun- not a bad way to spend a Thursday afternoon! Before heading out to the sand, we had lunch on the beach.  And when you're on the beach, you really need a frozen frou frou to go with your meal (or perhaps AS your meal!) I love a good Rum Runner, and Frenchy's on Clearwater Beach has yummy ones! Of course, I now need a new tote bag because of the one that end up spilled in my purse- don't ask! Let's just say it was my own damn fault! So in honor of yesterday's trip, I went looking for a good recipe to share.
This one sounds tasty (and easy to remember!)-

One ounce pineapple juice
One ounce orange juice
One ounce blackberry liqueur
One ounce banana liqueur
One ounce light or spiced rum
Splash of grenadine

Fill blender with 2 cups of ice and add above ingredients.  Fire up the blender and let go until smooth.  Pour into glasses and top with the following:

One ounce dark rum or aged rum (as a floater)
Orange slices
Cherries

If you live someplace that's still chilly (you poor thing!), you can just bookmark this  and file it away until summer.  Or you can crank up the heat, throw on some shorts, and listen to Jimmy Buffet CDs while enjoying a pitcher of these frozen delights! ;)  Either way, have a great Easter weekend!

Take care,
Nic
