Lately this idea of everyday creativity and the average Joe/Jane is bouncing around in my head. I’m curious about people and their creative confidence level. It seems that many folks connect creativity with an innate ability to paint, draw, or compose. Others see it as some divine channeling of ideas.
Perhaps. But I don’t believe it’s as elusive as many believe. I see creativity as a mindset, or too often, a “mindblock” folks set up for themselves, leading them to believe that they are or are not creative.
In the coming weeks, I want to explore creativity, what it is, and find ways to bring it to the surface within others. I’m including it as part of my 1,001 to Simple, Happy, and Relaxed, Damn It! project, because I believe finding and connecting with your creative self can help you find ways to simplify life, increase your happy quotient, and give you an outlet for relaxation even.
In the meantime, let’s start with a simple little brainstorming exercise…
Consider a fork.
List all the uses a fork has or could have. Stumped for ideas? As you go throughout your day, be aware of your actions and thoughts and whether a fork could be used or substituted for another utensil. As I was typing this, I stopped to scratch my head…and realized a fork could be a head scratcher or even a comb.
DON’T LIMIT YOURSELF AND LIST ALL IDEAS!! Simple, stupid, or random, doesn’t matter, list it! See how many ideas you can come up with…
Feel free to leave a comment with how many ideas you came up with.
