I love color. Love it. To the point that I often find myself unable to narrow down color choices.
In our previous house, I had BRIGHT walls for a few years- sun yellow, pear green, carribean blue. It got to be a bit much after a while, especially once I was home all day. I felt overwhelmed by color.
Someone on Twitter the other day was talking about how designers tend to minimize colors within their own home since they work with it all day, and I certainly understand that. Being surrounded by color 24/7 sort of fried my brain and exhausted your eyes after a while. Having a big red sofa and all of Jack’s brightly colored kid gear didn’t help matters either. I found that once I went to softer, more subtle colors on the walls thoughout the house, it helped my creativity and thought process.
And now we’re in a rental house with all white walls. I wonder if that’s why, for the first time ever, I FINALLY have decided on colors for a color chart that I’m now using when offering personalized prints and stationery, as well as using in design patterns of mine.
I love color charts. The wall of color samples at Home Depot or Lowe’s brightens my day every time I go in there.
I think in our next house, I’m going to keep my studio walls white so that I have a blank canvas to think against and then add bits of color to accent the space. This chart will definitely be up on the wall though.
What about you- are you a bright & colorful type or more a neutral palette type when decorating? Do you like your color on the walls or in the furniture and accents? Favorite colors?
