There’s nothing like someone with a differing viewpoint to help you clarify your own…
Recently Tara of Scoutie Girl wrote some thought-provoking posts about passion and personal responsibilites that gave me much to think about, and even got me a little riled up at times. But it was part of her comment on my Creativity and the Dishes post that helped solidify my position on all of it:
“…I think “balance” and “relaxation” are also a bit contrived when you’re talking about passion. The very essence of the word implies a fury.“
Balance matters a great deal to me though.
I don’t mean balance as defined by all things receiving an equal share of my attention, but rather, by giving the various aspects of my life their due attention, be they my family, business pursuits, household responsibilities, or a little time to zone out with “The Housewives”. (You know you love them-lol!)
And that’s when it hit me.
There’s a reason why my tagline ends with an emphatic “Damn It!“…
“Simple, Happy, and Relaxed” is MY Passion!
I want to help people simplify their life, by helping them define their priorities, eliminate clutter in their lives, or add efficiency to their days.
I want to see people happy, by helping them lighten up and add more laughter to their days, be true to themselves, and make time for the important (and the silly) things things in life.
I want to help people to relax, by helping them create or find their “happy places” (homes, locations, etc.), have methods to handle stress, and take time to recharge and regroup.
The products and designs I create are based on this passion as well. It’s why I create prodcts that are useful and beautiful. (Or at least, I hope you find them useful and beautiful!) It’s why my greeting cards are based in humor and sarcasm and silliness. I want to help folks lighten their moods, their surroundings, and their lives.
That “Damn It!” at the end of my tagline is a declaration of my passion, as well as admittance that life isn’t always going to be simple, happy, and relaxed, but it’s a worthwhile goal, damn it!
I want people to fully engage in and genuinely enjoy their lives. To free up energy to devote to things that bring them happiness rather than waste it on bullshit.
I believe that I can help people do that.
And so I’ll continue with my 1,001 Ways to Make Life Simple, Happy, and Relaxed, Damn It! project, renewed and reminded that you all are the reason and inspiration for doing it.
What drives you?
Here’s to passion, balance, simplicity, happiness, less bullshit, and all the other things that drive us,
