Tara Gentile, of Scoutie Girl, never ceases to amaze me with her passion and endless accomplishments. Her latest project, Kick the Door Down, is an ezine collection of inspiring stories from creative folks who are giving fear and doubt the finger to pursue creative happiness.
(*Full disclosure- Kick the Door Down includes a bit from me about Three By Sea and the manifesto I recently wrote.)
When Tara began soliciting stories of folks “kicking the damn door down”, I immediately thought back to my childhood and early 20s. It seemed highly unlikely then I’d ever make a living being creative. Yet I didn’t want to rehash the past, and how I was the “smart one” in the family growing up, not the “creative, artistic one”, or how I didn’t take my first art class until I was 27 years old.
These days I prefer to stay in the present, so I shared the story of my Three By Sea Manifesto instead. These days, rather than kicking down doors, I feel like a kid bursting through them, eager and excited to share things with others. I like that I’ve finally found my focus and am not afraid to say,
“This is who I am. This is what I’m about.”
So I hope you’ll head over to Scoutie Girl and download the digital zine. You’ll find stories that are amazing, inspiring, thoughtful, humorous, etc. And who knows, one just might help you give the finger to your own fears.
Got any fears you’d like to give the finger to?
See you later,
