For all my snarkiness and sarcasm, I really do believe in letting things go. That’s why I value a sense of humor so much; it’s a release valve for the stresses and irritations and injustices we all face.
And sometimes, when the shit really hits the fan, I also find meditation helpful.
Some folks write off meditation as New Age/Hippie crazy talk, but its mental and physical benefits are well-documented. Plus, it’s free and has no nasty side effects.
Speaking of free, I found this free eBook, Beautiful Calm, from Ananga of Living by Design, earlier this week while trying to find the answer to a tech question- go figure. Isn’t that just the way the internet seems to work these days?
This short eBook goes through an introduction to meditation, then has a section of “9 Ways to Calm and Tranquility.” They’re all simple meditation/breathing exercises that require as much or as little time as you wish to spend on them. You’d be surprised at what five or ten minutes of focused breathing can do for an overactive mind and stressed out body.
Ever have trouble sleeping? I also find it useful on restless nights when my thoughts are racing. Focusing on my breathing helps me to quiet my thoughts and fall asleep faster.
So before you write it off as too New Age-y, try a couple of the exercises. It’s just breathing, after all…the incense and Enya are totally optional. 😉
In with the happy, out with the crappy…
Here’s to a beautiful and calm weekend,
