This month makes five years since I moved to Florida. Originally I lived in Tampa, then I met my husband and moved across the bay to Clearwater. However, I’ll never forget my first morning living in Florida. I had taken my dog, Jasper, for a walk down by Tampa Bay, excited to be living so close to the water finally. For a girl from landlocked Kansas, this was huge! As I walked along, loving the coastal birds and palm trees, I see what I think is a huge piece of cardboard in the water. Bummed, I wondered what kind of an a-hole trashes such a pretty place. Then I see that there are two pieces of cardboard floating on the water. Suddenly, I realize that the cardboard pieces are actually keeping pace with me because they are, in fact, stingrays swimming! The idea that I lived within walking distance of stingrays was mind-blowing to this Kansas girl. I’m still amazed by all the beautiful and cool things that surround me.
The new stationery patterns I’ve been working on this week are inspired by stingrays. I’ll be working on a block print from this motif as well. I’ll post some preview pictures very soon!
