I’ve been dragging ass all week, and I think cooties are the culprit. My son came down sick immediately after our return home from Disney, and now my husband is hovering near the brink of death. I suspect the cooties are eyeing me as their next potential host to invade and suck the life from. They want me, but they can’t have me. I’m sucking down O.J. and vitamins, washing my hands like I have OCD, and chanting my “I’m not getting sick” mantra. Next will be the sage burning and Lysol fumigation. As further insurance, I’ve decided to lay low and relax this weekend. Everyone else is sick, so it’s not like I’ve got anyone to play with anyhow!
Instead I’ve decided to do a little DIY pedicure. It’s easy, inexpensive, and I don’t have to worry about whether I have hairy legs or not. I found a receipe for a foot soak and a foot scrub that I’m going to try. I was looking for recipes that use ingredients I already have. Many of the recipes I came across used essential oils, which I don’t have and didn’t feel like tracking down. Instead, all of these items can be found at the grocery store if you don’t have them on hand.
Softening Foot Soak
1/4 C. lemon juice
a bit of cinnamon
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup of milk
Mix together and soak as long as you like. It’s recommended that you do this twice a week to maintain the benefits. Unless you like your feet to feel like horses’ hooves.
Mint and Lavender Foot Scrub
½ cup coarse sea salt
3 tablespoons olive oil
3-4 sprigs fresh lavender, minced (Just planted some a few weeks ago!)
Handful fresh mint, minced (Ooo! planted some of that too!)
Mix it up, mash all over your feet, and rinse. Can’t wait to try this one- I think it’s going to smell so yummy!
When I finish my at-home pedicure, I’ll be taking myself outside for some quality time here-
Yes, that’s my hammock, sitting between two palm trees in my backyard under the new pergola. The sound of the palms blowing in the breeze is oh so relaxing. And if I’m going to make sure my toenail polish doesn’t get messed up before it dries, shouldn’t I make sure I keep my feet up for a while?
Take care, and remember- the weekend’s almost here!!
