Shockingly, I’m not referring to the crazies or the Spring Breakers in Florida. I’m talking about the the fresh fruit and produce that you can find in Florida in January. I was making lunch for my son today and it dawned on me that all this amazing produce was locally grown.
The pound and a half (no lie!) avocados are off my mother-in-law’s tree around the corner from me, the juicy tangerines are from a neighborhood lady who trades with my MIL for some of those creamy avocados, and the sweet, ripe strawberries are from a grower in Plant City, located 45 minutes from my house.
This is why I love Florida. It’s winter, but I’m not stuck eating root vegetables that are heavily seasoned and/or stewed for hours in order to be palatable. No, I’m eating fresh, light, sweet produce that I can go outside and pick, rinse, and eat. Yummmm….
